Commitment to Turn Waste into Alternative Fuel, Semen Gresik & Rembang Regency Government Press Cooperation on Waste Management through RDF System

Rembang, December 1st, 2023 PT Semen Gresik synergizes with the Rembang Regency Government in commitment to management and utilization of municipal waste into alternative fuel through Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) technology marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Rembang Regent's Office (30/11).

President Director of PT Semen Gresik, Muchamad Supriyadi, said the urban waste problem needs special attention. This collaboration is the right step to reduce waste as well as in line with the company's commitment to environmentally friendly operations.

"We are honored to be invited by the Regent to jointly be ready to become an off-taker in the municipal waste management project with the RDF system. He explained that energy is a major component in the cement industry in running the company's operations," he explained.

He continued that this memorandum of understanding aligns with Semen Gesik's focus on optimizing the transition from coal-based fossil fuel energy to more environmentally friendly energy.

"This step is a tangible manifestation of the company's commitment to ensuring its business processes are following the values of a sustainable green industry," Muchamad Supriyadi explained.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Rembang, H. Abdul Hafidz, welcomed and fully supported the collaboration with PT Semen Gresik. He stated that reducing the problem of urban waste is homework in every region.

"Therefore, this positive collaboration hopes that it will be able to reduce waste so that the city becomes clean and decent. We encourage this RDF management system to be realized immediately," concluded H. Abdul Hafidz.

In strengthening the commitment to the use of new renewable energy, Semen Gresik realized it by signing an MoU on waste management with the RDF system with the Jepara Regency Government and exploring potential cooperation for the use of RDF in Denpasar City.

Currently, besides RDF, Semen Gresik has utilized alternative fuels in the form of biomass (rice husks), solid waste in the form of waste from industrial activities (packaging waste, bags, shoes, used fabrics), to liquid waste (oil, used grease, and glycerin pitch).
